They say life begins at the end of your comfort zone, but they forgot to mention the humidity.
After years of living the suburban dream in the West, I packed up my life and moved to a few acres of North Carolina farmland. I went from a WFH life of polished lunches and paved paths to a WFH life where “coworkers” include a hive of bees and a very determined garden.
This is my journal of the Great Eastward Migration. Whether I’m figuring out how to grow a community garden from scratch or documenting the DIY disasters of a “pseudo-neighborhood” plopped in the middle of a pasture, I’m doing it with a sense of humor and a lot of sunscreen.

And since the garden often over-delivers, I’ll show you exactly what to do with the excess, turning a surplus of squash or berries into creative preserves and hearty donations for the local food pantry. It’s fresh, it’s functional, and it’s often a little messy.
